it is not surprising that members of my family there began to imagine I had fallen under the influence of someone’s evil eye

In Greece there is a talisman one can wear

Carmenates brings out the bouncing yet fluid rhythmic qualities of the original by adding subtle (or maybe not-so-subtle) lines and colors spread throughout the ensemble

and some subtle tributes to Manu Katche’s graceful yet powerful drumming on the “Secret World Live” album which I listened to incessantly in my younger years

The works were commissioned by Ian Graham as a birthday gift for his wife Agi Lehar-Graham (in the original manuscript Psathas adds a little wordplay to the work’s title

The title refers to a dance performed by a group of fanatics in one of Frank Herbert’s Dune books

The dance was non-repeating and exhausting for the dancer

which overlooks the Aegean Sea
